MUSIC

Alaskan troubadour

He's Alaska's state balladeer and the author of the Iditarod's theme song, and fittingly, Hobo Jim is playing a couple sets during Fur Rondy. Catch him preview songs from his upcoming album, "My Wild and Wolfen Ways," 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Anchorage City Limits, a new venue in the former Holiday Inn at 239 W. Fourth Ave. Tickets are $10. Call 331-6910 for info.

Sweet sounds

Pop-rock songmeister Mat Kearney's tunes have appeared in places like "30 Rock," "Friday Night Lights" and "Grey's Anatomy," and Tuesday, they can be heard from the Wendy Williamson stage. He plays 7:30 p.m. as part of UAA Winterfest. Tickets are $14 advance, $20 door for students and $25 / $30 for everyone else. Visit uaatix.com for info.

Family tradition

Big Bill Morganfield's 2003 album is called "Blues in the Blood," which is easy to interpret as a reference to him following in his father's footsteps. The son of Muddy Waters begins his three-night stand at Blues Central Thursday, 9 p.m. Tickets are $25, available at Blues Central or calling 272-1341.

A chance to dance
