Annual Fur Rondy Amateur Photo Contest Entries Highlight Alaska Wildlife, Scenery, Flowers and More
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Results are in for the 78th Annual Fur Rendezvous Juried Amateur Photography Contest, held in the Mall at Sears. Entries were accepted in both black & white and color, with 9 different categories: Portrait, Scenic, Wildlife, Pets, Sports, Flowers, Creative, Fur Rondy and Unclassified. The Fur Rondy Photo Contest is open to amateur photographers of all ages who have taken photographs in and of Alaska between January 1, 2012 and the entry deadline, which was Tuesday, February 5th.
The competition was judged by local professional photographers Dave Parkhurst of Alaska Naturally, Inc., Lisa Seifert of Wolf Studios Photography and Didier Lindsey of Alaska Wildlife Images. They all donated their time and experience to judge the contest, using the following criteria: print quality, composition, clarity and sharpness. When applicable, impact, originality, and subject material matching the photo category were also considered.
The contest received 396 entries from across the state, including Homer, Kenai, Eagle River, Wasilla, Palmer and Glennallen. Judges selected 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each category, as well as honorable mentions. An additional 175 entries were selected for exhibition, with a total of 250 entries on display. The public will be able to view the photos in the Mall at Sears (located at 600 East Northern Lights Boulevard) starting Friday, February 22 through Thursday, March 7
There was a tie for "Best of Show" in both black & white and color entries. Judges also selected two Junior Entries for "Best of Show" awards. The two junior winners happen to be sisters.
