Anchorage firefighters battled two mobile home fires in different parts of the city Friday night, one of which killed a person, a fire department spokesman said.
Several people called 911 after seeing a fire at the Rangeview Trailer Court at 705 Muldoon Road just before 6 p.m., Friday, fire department spokesman Al Tamagni said in a written statement Saturday. Witnesses reported smoke billowing out of a mobile home and said a person was inside, Tamagni said. At least one person had already escaped. Firefighters attacked the flames with water, searched inside and pulled out another injured person, he said.
The person, whom Tamagni did not name, died later at a hospital. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Tamagni said.
At about 9:15 p.m., several more callers to 911 reported another mobile home fire, this time in the Dimond Estates Trailer Park at 1200 W. Dimond Blvd., Tamagni said. Firefighters extinguished the flames and no one was injured, Tamagni said. The mobile home is considered a total loss, and the cause of the fire was undetermined as of Saturday, he said.
