Letter: House Bill 69 is an utter joke

So apparently we elected fools to the Alaska State Legislature. The front page of Tuesday's paper caught my eye and to my dismay it said that our representatives had passed a bill challenging federal gun laws. In the wake of yet another horrible school shooting, our response shouldn't be to clutch our guns to our chest like a child with his favorite toy. We should be doing everything we can to ensure this doesn't happen again.

House Speaker Mike Chenault, Republicans, anyone else who thinks the boogeymen are going to take your guns, please breathe. Take a moment to think. Federal law supersedes state law (Article 6, Section 2). That is something you were supposed to have learned in high school history class.

Instead of protecting guns, we should be protecting children. House Bill 69 is worthless.
