Man charged in series of Anchorage armed robberies, home invasions

A man has been charged in a series of armed robberies, home invasions and assaults in Anchorage in January, police said Tuesday.

Alejandro Aulman, 25, was indicted last week on nine counts of assault, seven counts of robbery, three counts of burglary and one count of theft involving eight separate cases, according to police spokeswoman Anita Shell.

Aulman was already in jail, charged in a Jan. 15 attack on a woman who accepted a ride from him in Fairview. In that case, Aulman was accused of demanding the woman's purse, striking her in the face and then shooting her in the hand.

He is due in court on Tuesday.

In 2007, Aulman, then 20, was charged with his girlfriend in a rash of break-ins. Stolen property worth more than $100,000 was found in the couple's East Anchorage apartment, police said at the time.

Police sent out the following summary of the cases in which he is accused:

1. Home Invasion Robbery at the 1400 Block of E. 12th Avenue: APD Case # 13-203

On January 2nd, 2013, around 09:00 AM, Anchorage Police were called to a home invasion robbery at the 1400 block of East 12th Avenue. The victim reported that sometime the night before a man had knocked on his residence door and asked to use his phone. The suspect rushed into the house when the victim opened the door, knocked the victim unconscious, and stole the victim's handgun. The victim awakened the following morning and called the police. The victim's handgun and some cash were taken during the incident.

2. Robbery at Subway Sandwich Shop (6110 Old Seward Highway): APD Case # 13-202

On the morning of January 2nd, 2013, a lone male entered the Subway Sandwich Shop located at 6110 Old Seward Highway, brandished a gun, and demanded cash from the cashier. The robber reportedly fled the restaurant on foot after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.

3. Robbery at Pizza Hut (118 E. 6th Avenue): APD Case # 13-368

On the morning of January 3rd, 2013, a lone male entered the Pizza Hut located at 18 E. 6th, pointed a handgun at an employee, and demanded the cash register. The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash before exiting the business and leaving the area in a vehicle.

4. Robbery at Extended Stay Hotel (108 E. 8th Avenue): APD Case # 13-1389

On January 9th, 2013 shortly before 5:30 PM, a lone male entered the lobby of the Extended Stay Deluxe hotel located at 108 East 8th Avenue, pointed a handgun at the front desk employee, and demanded money. The victim fled the building, and the robber took the victim's purse from behind the front counter.

5. Robbery at Burger King (700 Northway Drive): APD Case #13-1643

On January 11th, 2013, around 10:00 AM, a suspect entered Burger King, approached the counter, produced a gun and demanded money. An employee pulled out the cash drawers and relinquished some cash. Suspect fled on foot into a nearby trailer park.

6. Home Invasion Robbery at the 2700 Block of E. 17th Avenue: APD Case # 13-2257

On January 15th, 2013, around 6:00 PM, Anchorage Police were called to the 2700 block of East 17th Avenue by a female adult who had just awoken from unconsciousness, covered in blood. The victim last remembered answering a knock on her residence door. The contents of the victim's purse had been dumped out on the floor and a small amount of cash was taken. The victim was transported to the hospital where she was treated for multiple facial bone fractures.

7. Residential Burglary at the 1600 Block of Birchwood Street: APD Case # 13-2260

On January 15th, 2013, sometime between 8:30 A.M. and 5:00 P.M., the door of a residence was kicked in and the house was ransacked. The victim was unable to conclusively determine if anything was missing.

Alejandro Aulman indicted on one count of Burglary 1.

8. Robbery and Assault near 10th Avenue and Latouche: APD Case # 13-2240

On January 15th, 2013, around 4:30 PM, Anchorage Police responded to a shooting in the area of 10th Avenue and Latouche Street. A female adult had accepted a ride from an unknown male. After the victim had entered the vehicle, the suspect demanded her purse, struck her in the head. During a struggle, the victim was shot in the hand. The suspect, Alejandro Aulman, age 25, was found and taken into custody later that evening on an outstanding warrant and additional charges of Robbery 1, Assault 1 related to this incident.
