Cessna 182 bound for Takotna reported overdue Monday

A Cessna 182 flying from Anchorage to Takotna with three people aboard was overdue by hours Monday night, according to the Alaska Air National Guard.

A C-130 and Pavehawk helicopter were launched to look for the plane, spokeswoman Kaleinani Brooks Rupp said Monday night. They were searching around Rainy Pass and McGrath, she said.

Rupp said the plane was one of two traveling to Takotna together. One made it safely to Takotna and reported the route the two planes had planned to take.

Rupp said there was wind and blowing snow around Rainy Pass on Monday night.

The plane left Merrill Field on Monday morning and was expected to reach Takotna at noon. The 11th Air Force Rescue Coordination Center was notified around 3 p.m., Rupp said.

"I don't know if (the plane) was Iditarod related," she said.
