Anchorage's 'Idol' contestant doesn't make the top 10

Adriana Latonio, a 17-year-old East High School junior, was eliminated from "American Idol" in the latest round of competition Thursday. Latonio was the first Alaskan ever to make it into the top 10 female singers in the popular television talent show.

Latonio was said to be in danger after a Tuesday night performance that some considered lackluster. After her rendition of "Stand Up for Love" by Destiny's Child, judge Nicki Minaj told her, "I would suggest you work a little bit and come back next year."

"Her problem was that she didn't connect with the song," said critic Jeff Dodge on buddytv.com.

Latonio advanced to the latest round on the strength of a well-received performance in February. At that point in the competition, the judges were making the selections. This week, the votes of viewers determined the outcome.

The final rounds will be broadcast starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday on KTBY Channel 4, with the winner to be announced on March 14.
