Graff takes over as Anchorage schools superintendent Monday night

Ed Graff, now chief academic officer for the Anchorage School District, is scheduled to take over as superintendent Monday night.

He will be in charge after the Anchorage School Board formally accepts an agreement accepting the resignation of current Superintendent Jim Browder.

Graff has been a teacher, principal and central office administrator in the Anchorage district since 1991.

The School Board, in a closed-door executive session Thursday, made a deal with Browder to retire and chose Graff to succeed him. But no official action can take place in an executive session, so the changeover will occur at the regular board meeting Monday night.

Browder, hired a year ago, told the board in February that he was looking for a job in the Lower 48 to be closer to a seriously ill daughter and grandson in Georgia.

Last week, Browder said he is no longer applying for jobs but would like to retire.

The board is amending his contract Monday to make it happen.

Under the amended agreement, Browder is leaving the district June 14. From Monday night until then, he will be an adviser to Graff.
