By the time the UAA track and field team finished competing at Friday's Occidental Distance Carnival in Eagle Rock, Calif., and Saturday's Cal State Northridge Invitational in Northridge, Calif., the Seawolves recorded seven provisional NCAA qualifying times.
UAA's Ivy O'Guinn posted her second provisional qualifying time of the week with a victory in Saturday's 800-meter race, in which she clocked 2 minutes, 12.15 seconds. The automatic qualifying time for the event is 2:09.24.
The rest of the provisional marks came Friday, when Dylan Anthony and Ruth Keino each posted wins in 10,000-meter races. Anthony won the men's 10,000, finishing with a provisional qualifying time of 30:41.93. Keino outran the women at 34:59.11, also a provisional qualifier.
Friday's other provisional qualifiers were Isaac Kangogo (3:51.85) in the men's 1,500, Katie Krehlik (11:08.41) in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, with O'Guinn (4:27.70) and Susan Bick (4:34.40) posting provisional times in the 1,500 meters.
Saturday's event included numerous top-three finishes for the Seawolves, with Bick and Jessica Pahkala joining O'Guinn on the podium for the women's 800 meters. Bick clocked 2:14.52 to finish second and Pahkala finished third at 2:14.66.
Cody Parker and Franz Burghagen finished first and second, respectively, in the men's javelin, Parker making a season-best throw of 220 feet, 10 inches to improve his NCAA automatic qualifying mark and Burghagen with a toss of 214-11.
Kangogo's season-best 1:54.68 in the men's 800 meters was good for a runner-up finish, and Lloyd took second in the women's 400-meter hurdles at 62.85.
