CURLING

Team USA alive

The Team USA rink that features Jessica Schultz of Anchorage won its last round-robin game at the Women's World Curling Championship on Thursday, which qualified it for a tie-breaker match Friday that will send the winner to the four-team playoffs in the 12-team tournament in Riga, Latvia.

Team USA's 6-5 victory over Russia lifted it into a three-way tie for fourth place with Switzerland and Russia -- all three teams went 6-5 in round-robin competition. The winner of Friday's early tie-breaker game between Switzerland and Russia will then play the Americans to determine the fourth playoff seed.

Sweden (10-1), Scotland (10-1) and Canada (8-3) own the top three playoff seeds.

Earlier Thursday, Team USA lost 8-4 to Scotland.
