Letter: Young has dishonored Alaska

I grew up 45 miles from Rep. Don Young's childhood family farm. Workers of different races worked the California fields side by side. Rep. Young's father had crops to care for and get in. I doubt he was insulting to his workers. I learned early that "wetback" is a dirty word used only by the crudest and most thoughtless people. Don Young used the disrespectful slang term this week referring to farm labors as "wetbacks."

Our Alaska voters of Hispanic origin are growing in numbers all the time. They have a formal and proper home language. They respect officials. Rep. Young dishonors his own California education, the national Republican Party and state of Alaska … the Last Frontier, with a welcoming tradition to new American citizen voters of all races.
