Police were still looking Friday for two men involved in an alleged burglary and assault Thursday that generated a warning by the University of Alaska Anchorage, which said the armed men might be headed to the main campus.
City and university police said there had been no immediate threat to the 18,000 students, staff and faculty that received warnings by automated phone call and email.
Felony arrest warrants charging the two men -- Omar Luis Ducasse and Benjamin Zeckovic, both 21 -- remained active late Friday, according to court records. Anchorage police spokeswoman Dani Myren said officers still sought the two suspects.
It was about 2:15 p.m. Thursday when one of the two men may have struck a third person on the head with a handgun in a disturbance off campus at a residence in the 1000 block of Boniface Parkway, Myren said. Officers had reason to believe the men were headed to UAA, she said.
UAA Police Chief Rick Shell said in a written statement Friday that Ducasse lived in on-campus housing.
"The University Police have taken action to block Ducasse from gaining access to his on-campus residence," Shell said. "At this time there is no indication that Ducasse has been back to the campus since the incident."
Shell described Ducasse as 6 feet, 4 inches and 260 pounds and Zeckovic as 5 feet, 5 inches and 160 pounds. Zeckovic is not a UAA student, Shell said.
Police said the two might be driving in a blue 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer with the Alaska license plate GLN 485. Anyone who sees the SUV or either of the two suspects is asked to call UAA police at 786-1120 or Anchorage police at 786-8900.
