Letter: Short shrift for public schools

I am not big on conspiracy theories, but I do believe some of our conservative state leaders are conspiring to shortchange public education in Alaska.

They demand greatly increased school performance but have flat-funded our classrooms going on four years now. They are setting up our public schools for failure in order to justify their plan for publicly funded vouchers for private religious schools.

The last time legislators and the Anchorage Baptist Temple pulled a fast one in Juneau, the rest of us wound up paying higher property taxes. Please, never again.
