James Pepper Henry, the director and CEO of the Anchorage Museum for the past six years, has resigned. He will leave the Anchorage position on July 5 to assume the post of executive director and CEO of the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Ariz.

Pepper Henry took the reins at the Anchorage Museum as the facility was undergoing a major expansion. The Imaginarium Discovery Center moved into the museum and the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center exhibition of Alaska Native items opened during his tenure.

The Heard Museum is widely known for exhibiting the work of Native people of the American Southwest.

The Anchorage Museum Association will begin a search for a new CEO of the association and the museum.
