Anchorage – Wayland Baptist University will drop off a U-Haul's worth of toilet paper—10,000 rolls—on Wednesday, April 3 to Bean's Café as part of the school's IditaRollcampaign. Current student chapter president of SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) at Wayland Baptist, Brittany Sogge, describes the history of the IditaRoll:
"WBU's student chapter of SHRM started this drive in 2011 after finding out from Beans Café's former director, Jim Crockett that Beans was going through 75+ rolls of toilet paper a day. The Iditarod was happening when this idea of a toilet paper drive came up and in the spirit of the Last Great Race on Earth® – the drive was named the Great Alaska IditaRoll. The original goal that year was 1,012 rolls of toilet paper – matching each mile of the Iditarod with a roll of toilet paper. We printed out a map of the Iditarod and tracked our progress with mini rolls of toilet paper! If you don't already know the goal wasn't only met but TRIPLED and over 4,657 rolls of toilet paper were delivered to Beans Café in 2011.
Last year we decided we wanted to get more of the community involved and invited other companies and organizations to join us. We received lots of support and we were able to bring more than 4,580 rolls of toilet paper to Beans Café!"
Wayland Baptist University set out to double their goal from 2011 and did just that, collecting over 10,000 rolls! Bean's Café would like to thank Wayland Baptist University and the many individuals who participated in this year's IditaRoll.
