Hot picks: Motion City Soundtrack, Historian, Spenard Beer and Mead Social

Lucky 13

Bear Tooth becomes a teenager this week, as the Spenard hot spot celebrates its 13th anniversary Thursday. The party starts 9 p.m., with music by Minnesota pop-rockers Motion City Soundtrack. Tickets are $30 (21 and older). Visit beartooththeatre.net for info.

Making history

Last year, the now-defunct Boston Phoenix called Historian the best new band in Alaska, and the self-described "doomwop" band's follow-up to the "Dream Crusher" EP is due sometime this summer. In the meantime, the group will release the new single "Rebellious Flesh" as a download code on limited-edition posters designed by singer Nate Hurst. The code also gets you a remix of "All My Friends Are Extinct" by Alex the Lion. Grab a copy at the show, 9 p.m. Saturday at the S Lounge with Turquoise Boy and Ghost Hands, $7 (21 and older), and stream the single at adn.com/playblog.

Beer and Barley Wine

Tap Root hosts its third annual Spenard Beer and Mead Social on Saturday. There are two sessions in which to sample beverages from Alaska-based breweries, meaderies and distilleries: noon-3 p.m. or 4-7 p.m. Tickets are $30 (21 and older) and include admission to the Melissa Mitchell show later that night. Visit taprootalaska.com for info.
