Recent discussion of city worker pay seems to be short on facts. I believe that many were misled by the half-page ad that appeared in the ADN before the recent election. The ad listed the most highly paid city employees — but I believe it listed all compensation, including benefits and overtime. People seem to overlook this fact.
Moreover, if people truly want to compare city compensation to that available in the private sector, let’s see some data. Where is the list of the 300 highest paid private-sector employees living in Anchorage, along with full compensation, including benefits, stock options, and bonuses.
I’m not saying the numbers should be the same; I’m just saying that the current discussion lacks any context.
