Alaska senators vote against tighter gun control measure

Both of Alaska's senators, Mark Begich and Lisa Murkowski, voted against tighter gun control legislation Wednesday.

Murkowski tweeted Wednesday afternoon: "Alaskans want to keep Americans safe as much as anyone, but we don't believe we need to compromise 2nd Amendment rights to get there." And she later added in a second tweet: "Under Manchin-Toomey, thousands of law-abiding Alaskans would have had to buy a plane ticket to buy a gun."

In a statement released by his office Wednesday, Begich said: "I've said all along that there are commonsense things we can do to keep our communities safe, but we must do them without undermining our Second Amendment rights. Unfortunately the bill on the Senate floor today would have done just that."
