West 1, East 0

West's Ahmed Niass notched the only goal Wednesday in a 1-0 Cook Inlet Conference victory over East at The Dome, helping the Eagles remain undefeated in league play.

West (6-0-0) misfired on numerous shots throughout the match, drilling the crossbar on a few occasions before finally breaking through with the game-winner from Niass with less than 10 minutes remaining. Niass tracked down a loose ball near the left goal post and crossed a shot into a wide-open right corner of the net.

"The goal was pretty awesome," said Niass, an exchange student from Senegal. "I saw the defender wasn't there, so I just moved around and hit it."

East failed to produce any scoring threats in the final minutes and fell to 2-3-0 in league play.

West 2, East 2

West's Kayle Blackmore scored a late goal to help the Eagles forge a 2-2 draw with East in a Cook Inlet Conference girls soccer match at The Dome on Wednesday.

East (1-3-2) led 1-0 at halftime on a goal from Robin Hughes. West (2-3-1) tied it at 1-1 on a goal from Annie Rush, who got an assist from Kendall Stevens. East regained the lead when Grace Woern scored on a penalty kick.

"East played really well," West coach Brandon Barter said. "They hustled all game. They really wanted it, so they made it a challenge and we were fortunate to come out of here with a tie today."
