(Anchorage, Alaska, USA) – Molly Rardin, a 7th grade student at Steller Secondary School, has been named a merit award winner in the 25th annual Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest. Molly was one of 23 merit award winners announced Feb. 1 at the "Lions Day at the United Nations" event in New York City.
Other merit award winners include students from Brazil, China, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Nigeria, South Africa, and the United States. Each merit award winner received a cash award of $500 and a certificate of merit.
The grand prize winner of the contest was Jenny Park, an 8th grade student from Northridge, California.
Lions Clubs International is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Peace Poster contest, which was created to showcase the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. Rardin was among more than 400,000 students worldwide, ages 11-13, who submitted posters this year. Entries were judged for originality, artistic merit and portrayal of this year's contest theme, "Imagine Peace".
Rardin's poster advanced through regional competitions, and was judged in the international competition held in Chicago, IL. Rardin was sponsored by the Mt. McKinley Lions Club.
