Doyon, Limited Awards Language Revitalization Grants

Fairbanks, Alaska – Doyon, Limited recently awarded Language Revitalization grants to six organizations in Interior Alaska totaling approximately $30,000. Shageluk's language immersion camp was awarded $4,625, Beaver Cruikshank School's Gwitch'in music CD was awarded, $4,989, Telida Village Council's audio and video recordings of language speakers was awarded $4,950, Alatna Tribal Council's immersion/culture camp was rewarded $5,000, Denakkanaaga's language sessions was awarded $4,560, and Circle Tribal Council's language and culture camp was awarded $5,000.

In 2012, the Doyon, Limited board of directors approved a budget for grants that promote the preservation of Native languages within the Doyon region. The awardees were selected because their projects were rated the highest. The reviews were completed independently of one another and were rated on the scope of work, budget (and other sources of funding), and community support.
