ANCHORAGE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Alaska District selected a new safety and occupational health manager.
David Prado Jr. now serves as the organization's technical authority for safety engineering, general safety and occupational health with responsibility for advising the commander, staff and contractors on such matters.
Prado, 45, oversees all aspects of safety associated with military construction, civil works and environmental remediation projects. He also evaluates safety and occupational health programs for diverse operations that include high-risk construction; hazardous, toxic and radioactive waste; maritime activities; and public recreational facilities with the potential for injury and death to employees, contractors and members of the public.
Prado joined the Alaska District in 2005 as a safety engineer and remained in that role until his current promotion. In 2006, he voluntarily deployed for three months to support the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort at the Corps' Vicksburg District in Mississippi.
Prado began his federal civil service career in 2003 as a safety engineer for the U.S. Army Materiel Command's Logistics Leadership Center at Red River Army Depot in Texarkana, Texas. During this assignment, he pursued graduate studies in industrial engineering with an emphasis in safety at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and received on-the-job training with the Corps' Seattle District.
Originally from El Paso, Texas, Prado is an Army Reserve veteran and possesses a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.
