MLP wins safety award

ML&P honored with regional award for outstanding safety practices

Municipal Light & Power earned the Northwest Public Power Association's top award for safety in the category for utilities with 400,001-1,000,000 hours of annual worker exposure, followed by second-place Clark Public Utilities and third-place Golden Valley Electric.

In 2012, ML&P had 460,955.27 electrical worker-hours of exposure.

An annual tradition, the 2013 NWPPA Safety Award winners were announced earlier this month at the Engineering & Operations Conference on April 11 in Portland, Ore.

Safety contest awards are based upon a review of each utility's safety contest entry, the number of recordable injury/illness cases (the incident rate) in 2012, and the lost-work days (the severity rate) in 2012.

Earlier this year, ML&P was recognized for safety excellence by the American Public Power Association for placing third in its category nationally.

"Keeping our staff and customers safe is our top priority while we provide reliable and affordable electric service to our military, business, government and residential customers," said General Manager James Posey, who noted the utility's 10-year record of providing continuous electric service 99.99 percent of the time. "I'm very proud of the men and women who work hard every day to safely keep our 4-9s of reliability."
