Three world records set at Native Youth Olympics

Apaay Campbell, Dylan Magnusen and Steven Ugale each posted world records Friday in the Native Youth Olympics at the Dena'ina Center.

Campbell and Magnusen set records in the kneel jump, Campbell topping the girls with a jump of 55.5 inches and Magnusen besting the boys with 67 inches. Ugale's record came in the boys toe kick, where he reached 96 inches.

All three athletes won their events by wide margins. Campbell, of the Bering Strait School District, outjumped her nearest competitor by 13 inches. Magnusen, of Unalaska, held an advantage of more than nine inches and Ugale, also of Unalaska, won by four inches.

Boys -- 1) Dylan Magnusen, Unalaska, 67 inches (world record); 2) Carlin Lupie, Bethel, 57.75; 3) Hayden Johansen, Mt. Edgecumbe, 57.25; 4) Jose Casados, Effie Kokrine, 57; 5) Steven Ahvakana, Anchorage A 55.75.
