Anchorage Park Foundation Awards 20 Challenge Grants to Volunteer Groups
ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Friday April 26, 2013, noon, Town Square Park– George Cruickshank is twelve years old. He is receiving a grant to install a new kiosk at Jodphur Trailhead at Kincaid Park as part of his Eagle Scout service project. He lives next door to the park and considers it his second home.
Kelly Peterson is a long-time Spenard resident and knows the need for a new swing set at Roosevelt Park. She is receiving a grant to make this a reality for the families in her neighborhood.
Jerry Kaplan and Peter Lang are part of the Alaska Tennis Association and recently discovered that many city tennis courts are missing nets, thus being abandoned. They are receiving a grant to replace nets all over town.
Karen Ferguson works with refugees to build a better life in Alaska. She is getting a grant to make much needed community garden improvements to their plots in Mountain View's Davis Park.
George, Kelly, Jerry, Peter, and Karen are part of an amazing group of 2013 Challenge Grantees. Other projects include repairing Spencer Loop, building new Singletrack at the north side of Kincaid Park, beautification of Westchester Lagoon, and a mobile "Story Walk" with life size pages of a book for display along a trail.
