GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

West 1, Service 1, tie

West and Service battled to a 1-1 draw Thursday in a Cook Inlet Conference soccer match at The Dome.

Annie Rush's goal from about 30 yards out gave West a 1-0 lead. Siri Parker evened the score near the end of the first half by converting a pass from Jesslin Wooliver.

A second-half shot by Service's Madasin Jennings hit the post, preserving the tie.

Johnny Meszaros struck out nine in four innings to lead Service to a 12-6 win over West in the high school baseball season-opener Thursday at Mulcahy Stadium.

Meszaros allowed one unearned run to get the victory in the seven-inning game. Run support came from Jake Ridley and Michael Shuler, who each racked up two runs, two hits and two RBIs.

Dalton Chapman struck out seven in a four-inning losing effort for West. Noah Lyford scored twice for the Eagles.
