Letter: Save wood at transfer station

I use the transfer station for my trash about four times a year. Every time I do I am amazed and appalled at what people throw away. One thing I noticed is the amount of lumber and boards wasted. Why not have a place at the transfer station, along the fence perhaps, where people can stack perfectly usable boards and wood for others to take? Especially now, when people are making raised beds for planting their gardens.

The wood doesn't have to be straight and pretty, or even free from holes. Many projects around the house and yard don't need brand new wood. Having a place at the transfer center is the only way this would work, as most people will not take the time or effort to drop it off anywhere else, but maybe they would just walk it across a parking lot, if the opportunity was there.
