East romps to 2 wins

Led by Sydney Smith's two shutouts, the East High softball team stormed to a pair of blowout victories Friday in Cook Inlet Conference action at Albrecht Fields.

Smith struck out seven and allowed one hit in East's 13-0 five-winning win over Bartlett, and then delivered a three-strikeout, two-hit effort in East's 12-0 four-inning win over South.

Taria Page wielded a big bat for the Thunderbids in both games, going a combined 6 for 6 with a triple and a double.

In the win over Bartlett, East freshman Alexis Joubert hit the first home run of her high school career and Lilly Blair was 3 for 5 with a triple and a double. Against South, Blair was 2 for 3 with a double.

West 7, Chugiak 6

Erin Goudreaux's first career home run highlighted a dramatic sixth inning and fueled West's 7-6 CIC softball victory Friday over Chugiak.

West led 5-4 after five innings and stretched the lead to 7-4 in the top of the sixth on the blast by Goudreaux, a junior.

Chugiak came back in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice before West pitcher Nikki Olsen ended the rally with a strikeout and groundout.

Olsen pitched the final three innings in relief of Lauren Syrup, and together they limited the Mustangs to three hits.

Service 14, Eagle River 4

Stephanie Compton and Kenzie Duwe provided plenty of offensive fireworks in Service's 14-4 CIC softball win at Albrecht Fields on Friday.

Compton drove in three runs and was 3 for 4, and Duwe drove in two runs and was 2 for 3, in support of Kearia Caldarera, who pitched all five innings for the victory.

Sara Peyton sparked Eagle River with a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs.

Ketchikan takes two

Ketchikan posted a pair of nonconference softball victories over Anchorage teams Friday, stopping Dimond 10-1 and South 9-5.

Lizzie Carson struck out eight in the win over Dimond and got run support from Brooke Simmons and Jazmyn Nedzweck, who each scored three times for Ketchikan.

In the win over South, Ketchikan stole 16 bases and got RBIs from seven players.


Chugiak 3, East 1

Second-half goals by Tristyn Hall and Jessi Beverlin carried Chugiak past East 3-1 in a Cook Inlet Conference girls soccer match Friday at The Dome.

Beverlin scored twice, with her first goal helping the Mustangs to a 1-0 lead. East scored off a free kick to make it 1-1 at the half.

Hall got the assist on Beverlin's second strike, and Holly Brehmer assisted on Chugiak's other two goals.

Dimond 11, Bartlett 0

Ten players contributed goals Friday in Dimond's 11-0 rout of Bartlett in a CIC girls soccer match at The Dome.

Darby Judd booted in two goals and Hannah Seidl assisted on three to lead the Lynx to a 9-0 halftime lead.

Other goals came from Mariah Roullier, Aaliyah Lewis, Anjoilyn Vreeland, Bobbye Pendleton, Elizabeth Goodrum, Camryn Sweeney, Abby Stahl, Hannah Faber and Haley Martin.

Katelyn Sweeney and Leah Swiss shared the shutout.


South 4, Dimond 3

A bases-loaded walk gave South a 4-3, eight-inning baseball victory over Dimond in Cook Inlet Conference action Friday at Mulcahy Stadium.

South starter Max Karnos struck out 10 and yielded one hit in six innings and helped his own cause with two hits and two RBIs. Brad Butcher earned the win in relief.

Payton Lauwers tallied two hits and two RBIs to lead Dimond.
