Letter: Giving away money for nothing

People like Gene Sanderson (Letters, May 2) have to understand that you cannot run our government like a family or a business, and vice versa.

If you were a single parent with three teenagers, and they voted to extend their curfew to 12 a.m. on weekdays and 3 a.m. on weekends and then overrode your veto, that would not work would it?

Business would not last long either if they gave away money (oil taxes) in return for nothing. You cannot compare apples to oranges.
