UPDATE: Sullivan Arena announced on Monday that the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert has sold out.

Hints had been posted on the Sullivan Arena Facebook page for the past week, but the venue made it official Monday: Red Hot Chili Peppers will play Sullivan Arena on Aug. 5.

Known for hits like "Under the Bridge" and "Scar Tissue," the 30-year-old band would be playing its first show in Alaska, but the group has been booked here before. In 1997, the Chili Peppers were forced to cancel four different Anchorage dates -- the first because singer Anthony Kiedis shattered his wrist in a motorcycle accident, the second because of a scheduling conflict, the third because drummer Chad Smith dislocated his shoulder in another motorcycle accident, and the fourth, a New Year's Eve show, was canceled along with a slew of other dates because of then-guitarist Dave Navarro's battle with drug addiction.

Sixteen years later, the funk-rock band is giving it another go. Tickets are $65 and go on sale noon Friday at Ticketmaster outlets, the Sullivan Arena box office or by calling 1-800-745-3000.
