Service 2, South 1
It only took the Service boys 15 seconds to score the first goal in a Cook Inlet Conference soccer match at South on Thursday, and the Cougars went on to win 2-1.
Service's Kirby Hutto and Adam Klie set up a streaking Ihro Raguindin for the match's first goal, and Klie gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute courtesy an assist from Ian Kroloff.
South scored off a corner kick just before halftime, and both goalkeepers made some big saves in a scoreless second half.
GIRLS SOCCER
Dimond 4, Eagle River 0
Dimond's Ariela Lewis racked two goals and an assist Thursday in helping the Lynx remain undefeated with a 4-0 win over host Eagle River in a Cook Inlet Conference girls soccer match.
Madison Richards opened the scoring in the second minute on an assist from Lewis, who extended the lead to 2-0 with an assist from Aaliyah Lewis before halftime. Dimond (11-0-0 CIC) kept it going in the second half when Haley Martin assisted Ariela Lewis' second goal and Anjoilyn Vreeland completed the scoring.
Dimond's Katelyn Sweeney and Ruth Ann Lomu shared goaltending duties.
SOFTBALL
South wins two
The South softball team produced a pair of victories Thursday at Albrecht Fields, blowing out Kenai 14-1 in a nonconference game and knocking off Dimond 5-2 in a Cook Inlet Conference game.
South's Emily Eckroth drove in three runs in the win over Kenai, going 2 for 3 and scoring twice. Kalli Albright belted two doubles for the Wolverines and pitched a complete game, striking out four in four innings.
Both of Kenai's hits came from Carly Norvelle, who went 2 for 2 and scored.
South's win over Dimond included a four-run fourth inning and a complete game from pitcher Rachel White, who struck out seven in seven innings. White also recorded two hits and drove in a run. Rachel Eytalis notched a pair of hits to go with a run and an RBI.
Dimond's Tara Thompson and Whitney Jackson each smacked two hits.
West 11, E. River 1
Lauren Syrup's three-run, inside-the-park home run was part of a nine-run fourth inning that helped West pummel Eagle River 11-1 in a CIC softball game at Albrecht Fields.
Syrup was also the winning pitcher, completing all four innings of a game shortened by mercy rule. Mikaela Teel added a pair of hits and runs for the Eagles, who improved to 7-0 in CIC play.
Sarah Peyton drove in Eagle River's only run in a 1-for-2 effort.
Bartlett 11, E. River 3
Maribel Torres' first-inning, two-run double propelled Bartlett to an 11-3 CIC softball win over Eagle River at Albrecht Fields on Wednesday.
Samantha McFadden pitched a complete game for the Golden Bears, striking out three and surrendering three hits in four innings.
Eagle River scored three runs in the fourth, sparked by a double from Mikaela Dean.
BASEBALL
Chugiak 11, East 8
Devon Ferriss and Chase Wilson delivered RBIs in the fourth inning Thursday to spark Chugiak's 11-8 come-from-behind baseball win over East at Mulcahy Stadium.
The Mustangs trailed 5-4 after three innings but scored four runs in the fourth to take command.
Cody Kurfman entered in relief in the fourth and finished the game for Chugiak, getting three strikeouts en route to the pitching victory.
ORIENTEERING
Sarwas takes Big-O
Regan Sarwas navigated soggy trails at Kincaid Park on Wednesday to win Jill and Joyce's Big-O orienteering meet.
Sarwas outscored all competitors and won the men's division with 870 points. Karen Bronga won the women's division with 570 points.
Eric and Logan Follett combined efforts to win the team event with 390 points.
