SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE: Anchorage police today identified the man found dead in the van as Karl Leroy Cox Jr., 28 years old. Police revealed no other information about the death.
Police spokeswoman Dani Myren could not immediately name Cox's hometown. Cox listed a home address in Ketchikan in recent years, according to public records. Police records show he also might have been living in Anchorage, Myren said.
Anchorage police are investigating the discovery of a man's body in a parked van that caught fire late Thursday night off of Tudor Road.
The fire was reported at about 11 p.m. in a parking lot behind Chong's Tokyo Garden at 550 West Tudor, said police spokeswoman Dani Myren.
"Detectives say the fire does not look suspicious at this time, but the case is still under investigation," Myren said.
Police provided few details about the case and have not yet identified the dead man. Witnesses told officers he appeared to be living in the Ford van, Myren said.
An autopsy is planned to determine who the man is and how he died, she said.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
