Anchorage airport training to include smoke, flames

An airport firefighter training exercise will put plumes of dark smoke into the air over West Anchorage this week, officials say.

Firefighters practice aircraft rescue and battling flames during the training, which will be Wednesday through Saturday, according to a statement from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. The firefighters plan to use a burn pit at the airport's south end.

The "live fire" training is conducted in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration requirements, the airport statement said.
