Gold Nugget to go on as planned Sunday

The race is on, Gold Nugget Triathlon organizers said Saturday, the day after snow postponed numerous outdoor events and jeopardized the 30th running of the state's biggest triathlon.

Race organizers said no changes are expected for Sunday's race.

"Skies are clearing, pavement is drying and (the first transition area) is ready to accept all bikes," the race announced on its website. "With safety as our priority, we will still assess the course at 7:00 a.m. with another report to you at 7:30 a.m., Sunday morning."

Those reports will be posted on the race's website, its Facebook page and at the Bartlett High pool, where the race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with a field of more than 1,500 girls and women.

Organizers advise racers to come dressed for cold weather:

"Remember you can take extra clothes with you into the pool area as long as it fits in a bag under your lap counter's seat. You can change in the pool locker room but you must take all your gear with you to your bike in (the first transition area)."
