Wine of the week: 2011 Tomero Malbec

Memorial Day weekend is built for grillin' and chillin'. Meat lovers everywhere are going to need a tasty and reasonably priced red that can stand up to those steaks, chops and burgers. The 2011 Tomero Malbec is just the ticket. Dark, dense plum cherry and liquorice spice waft from the humid nose, but it really pops in the mouth. Its forward, seductive sweet black cherry fruit leans on the palate with weight and conviction. The wine is very engaging and offers enough grip and resistance to handle those smoky meats. Costs about $15 in our market.
