'Swan Lake' screened in Anchorage - but in 2D

We were excited to hear about the live big screen broadcast of "Swan Lake" by the Mariinsky Ballet Company. In addition to the terrific troupe of dancers and exquisite production values, it was reported as the first ever live big screen broadcast in 3D - at least as pertains to ballet.

A while back I caught the "Carmen" broadcast in 3D and didn't thing the special effect added anything to the show. Ballet may be a different matter, with ballerinas leaping right out of the screen at you. However, I'll have to wait to find out. The live broadcast (actually delayed for local time) will be seen at Tikhatnu Regal Cinemas in Anchorage at 6:30 p.m. on June 6, but it will be in plain old 2D. Apparently the 3D version is only available in some markets.

I received no word on whether the program will be encored, but noted that it will be seen in Fairbanks at the Goldstream at the same time, also in 2D.
