Hiker rescued from Flattop Mountain after ankle injury

A hiker was rescued from Flattop Mountain by helicopter Saturday after he injured his ankle, according to the Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers got the 911 call at 12:58 a.m. on Saturday. Stefan Von Mergl-Grote, 33, of Australia, was a few hundred yards from the top of the mountain when he hurt his ankle and wasn't able to walk out, according to a dispatch posted online Sunday.

Alaska State Troopers, the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group and Life Med Helicopters responded, according to the dispatch.

Von Mergl-Grote was taken to Alaska Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not life-threatening.
