After filling its head hockey coach vacancy by hiring Matt Thomas on Tuesday, UAA will soon begin searching for his boss as it seeks a new athletic director.

UAA vice chancellor Bill Spindle, who directed the coach search and is doing likewise in the hunt for a new athletic director, said the school has hired Eastman & Beaudine, an executive search firm based in Plano, Texas.

Spindle said Bob Beaudine, chief executive officer of Eastman & Beaudine, in scheduled to be in Anchorage on July 1 to start the search process.

According to the company's website, Eastman & Beaudine has placed more than 40 athletic directors around the country and placed roughly that same number in high-profile head coaching positions in football and basketball. The firm has also helped fill vacancies in virtually all the major sports in the U.S.

"(Bob Beaudine) has a reputation for finding an AD that is a great fit for your situation,'' Spindle said.

UAA has been without an athletic director since Steve Cobb was fired May 29 after 13 years on the job.

Tim McDiffett, who has been serving as acting athletic director since Cobb's removal by Chancellor Tom Case, has agreed to remain on as interim athletic director until a new AD is hired, Spindle said.

Spindle said the school expects to hire a new athletic director about 5-7 weeks after the search process begins.

This has been a busy spring and summer for filling jobs in the UAA athletic department. Beyond replacing Cobb, the school also must hire an assistant hockey coach, possibly two, and it recently hired an assistant women's basketball coach.
