Letter: Don't leave your pets in hot cars

People, people, people, what are you thinking!

Currently Alaskans are enjoying a record setting hot, sunny summer, but, are your animals? During a recent shopping trip, I spotted no less than five cars with animals locked inside. Some had windows rolled down part way but three did not. The animals had to be miserable and were in danger with our 80-plus degree heat.

When the outside temp is just 70 degrees, the heat index inside your vehicle can reach 155 degrees in just a matter of ten minutes. We all love our animals, myself included. I take my dog everywhere with me, but not in this type of weather. Love your animals, but leave them at home. Animals die of heat stroke much more quickly than humans.
