Letter: Sportfishing nets short shrift

Just read the latest emergency closure on the Kenai, not surprised in the least! People need to understand the Kenai is managed for maximum output of red salmon with very little consideration for the kings.

The kings run close to shore and right on the bottom when they come up the Inlet. If Fish and Game was serious about managing kings they would make the setnetters shorten their nets so the kings would have three feet net-free. But we cannot do that because one more red might get through.

The setnetters do not fill the motels, stores and shops on the Peninsula but sportfishing does!
