RL Clark of N C Machinery judges the SkillsUSA Diesel Equipment Technology Performance Based Assessment Conference

June 7, 2013 (Anchorage, AK) – College Relations/Recruiter RL Clark from N C Machinery recently took part in the judging for the 2013 SkillsUSA Diesel Equipment Technology contest hosted by the University of Alaska and N C Machinery.

The Gold Medal went to Dillon Zellhuber of Craig, Silver to Andres Ornelas of Anchorage, and Bronze to Jake Elliot of Anchorage. The Alaska SkillsUSA contest, held on the University of Alaska Anchorage Campus took place March 18th - 23rd. This event was a showcase for UAA students who are preparing for careers in the Alaska Heavy Equipment industry.

All five of these students are a part of the Heavy Duty Transportation Equipment Program at the UAA Community and Technical College, led by Dennis Massingham. "I would be proud to have any of them join the N C workforce. They are professional and passionate about the career field they have chosen which was apparent in their excellent performance," said RL.

During the competition, the students worked against the clock and each other, proving their skills both in truck repair and on a Caterpillar® excavator. The competition covered a broad range of technical skills, including electronics, preventive maintenance inspections, braking systems, diesel engines, drivetrains and general shop skills. All contests are run with the help of industry, trade associations, and labor organizations, and test competencies are set by industry.

"It is exciting to see Alaskan students training here for careers in the diesel equipment technology industry. The competition is a testament to the true champions we are training and their individual dedication to excellence in their trade, as well as their leadership skills," said Rick Norman, N C Machinery Alaska Product Support Manager.
