Searchers found a Tonsina woman dead in a creek Wednesday near her home, where she and some friends had been drinking two nights before, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Linda Poplin's friends said she was "highly intoxicated" Monday night, troopers said in a written statement. The friends called for help finding Poplin, 61, about 7 p.m. Tuesday, troopers said.
A trooper searched the area around her home, near Mile 79.5 of the Richardson Highway and not far from Squirrel Creek. About 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, a volunteer searcher found Poplin's body in a logjam in the creek, troopers said.
There were no immediate signs of foul play, troopers said in the statement, issued Thursday. A medical examiner is set to conduct an autopsy, the statement said.
