Pack a big cooler if you're headed to the Kenai Peninsula this weekend.
The reds are rushing in, and at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, the daily limit for sockeye salmon on the Russian River and Upper Kenai River will increase from three to six, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced Friday.
Also increasing is the possession limit, which jumps from three to 12.
More than 23,700 early-run reds have passed the Lower Russian Lake weir, prompting the increases.
The limits are in place upstream from Skilak Lake to Fish & Game regulatory markers about 300 yards upstream of the public boat launch at Sportsman's Landing, and from the mouth of the Russian River upstream to a Fish & Game marker about 600 yards downstream from the Russian River Falls.
