Bucs sweep Chinooks

The Anchorage Bucs remained undefeated in Alaska Baseball League play Friday by sweeping a doubleheader with the Chugiak Chinooks at Mulcahy Stadium.

The Bucs rallied from behind for a 6-4 win in the first game and escaped with a 2-1 win in the second game.

The Bucs (5-0) trailed 4-0 through two innings in the early game, but cut the lead in half with two runs in the third. Mike Strentz gave the Bucs the lead for good in the sixth when he blasted a grand slam, his league-leading second home run of the season. Brennan Henry pitched into the sixth inning to earn a win.

The Chinooks (1-8) managed two hits, getting one apiece from Nicholas Covello and Zach Harbison.

The Bucs scored both their runs in the third inning of the second win, getting RBIs from Tyler Coolbaugh and Collin Ferguson. Andrew Sopko struck out five over five innings for a win.

Griffith Roark cracked two hits and scored a run for the Chinooks.

Miners 7, Oilers 2

The Mat-Su Miners capitalized on Peninsula Oilers mistakes Friday, scoring five unearned runs in the third inning on their way to a 7-2 ABL victory at Seymour Memorial Park.

It was Mat-Su's second win in a three-game series with the Oilers (1-2), improving their record to 5-2. Starter Ty Schlottmann pitched seven strong innings for a win, allowing six hits and striking out four. A.J. Simcox went 2 for 3 and scored twice for the Miners.

Kyle Hunt led the Oilers with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
