Letter: Don't jeopardize UAA programs

Some previously generous supporters of UAA have declared that they will no longer support our university because of the recent brouhaha involving the athletic department.

Is decreasing support for UAA intended to reward a highly paid lobbyist and a governor who has blurred the lines of his authority? Or is it going to inadvertently punish today's and tomorrow's students and faculty? In showing our disapproval by cutting support, are we jeopardizing UAA's excellent programs, which are preparing young people to be smart, effective, and ethical Alaskans of the future? Do we punish a child when his or her grown-ups screw up?

Could it be that this is a time to increase, rather than decrease or discontinue, our support for our university? I think so!
