Regarding Beth Bragg's story on the "Mayor's Marathon (June 21)" … I have noticed in this and other references that the race is now mostly referred to as the "Mayor's Marathon." What stake does the Mayor of Anchorage have in the race? Seems like it used to be called the "Midnight Sun Marathon" or the "Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon."
Though I haven't run it since 1978, the name "Midnight Sun" has much more appeal and draw from runners nationally … even internationally than "Mayor's." Is there politics at play?
