Man critical after Fairview shooting; suspect charged

One man is in critical condition and another in police custody facing charges following a 2 a.m. shooting Monday in Fairview, according to Anchorage police.

The victim, whom police have not named, was shot multiple times in the torso and legs in an alley off of 13th Avenue, between LaTouche Street and Medfra Street, police said.

The man is in his late 20s and underwent surgery at a hospital Monday morning, said police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro. He was in critical condition, she said.

Neville Xavier Herndon, 31, was arested and charged with first-degree assault, misconduct involving a weapon and driving with a suspended license, police sa.d

Several people saw the attack and were interviewed by police, Castro said.

Castro said she did not know if the suspect was arrested at the scene or later located by police.
