This weekend's two-day Great Alaska Jamboree will feature some of the best ultimate frisbee players Alaska has ever produced.
The 10-team tournament at Kincaid Park will draw teams from Anchorage, Fairbanks, Hawaii, Oregon and Whitehorse, Yukon.
An annual event since 1996, the tournament is a showcase for the fast-paced, seven-on-seven co-ed game. Games begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday on the Kincaid soccer fields.
Among the entries is an Anchorage team called Legacy that includes Bruce and Tami Hamler, who years ago helped organize ultimate frisbee in Anchorage, and Chris Kosednar and Hannah Krielkamp, two of the state's most accomplished players who currently play in Seattle.
"It's players from the Baby Boom generation and Generation Y," tournament volunteer John Gregoire said.
Kosednar is a former world champion who plays for the Seattle Sockeye and Krielkamp plays for the Seattle Riot, the reigning women's national champions. Both grew up playing in Anchorage.
Other top Alaskan players include Hannah Griego and Casey Sullivan, who have both played for national championship teams, Gregoire said.
The Jamboree kicks off Thursday night at the Beartooth Theatre with a 10:30 p.m. showing of "Chasing Sarasota," a documentary that chronicles the Portland Rhino's effort to win the 2011 national championship.
