Wasilla councilman dies in heavy equipment accident

Wasilla city councilman Steve Lovell died when a piece of heavy equipment he was using to construct a dirt bike jump crushed him, the Frontiersman newspaper reported Monday. He was 56.

Lovell was the owner of Valley Diesel Marine, a boat repair business and was raising two of his grandchildren at the time of his death, according to the newspaper.

He was elected to the city council in October 2012.
