Former Nanook Johnson signs with NHL Boston

Former UAF goaltender Chad Johnson has signed a one-year, one-way contract with the NHL's Boston Bruins that will pay him $600,000.

Johnson, 27, spent much of last season with AHL Portland, but shined in brief duty with NHL Phoenix. For Phoenix, he went 2-0-2 with a 1.21 goals-against average, .954 save percentage and one shutout.

He should have a shot at being the Bruins' No. 2 goalie behind Tuukka Rask.

Johnson is a former All-American and CCHA Player of the Year.

Johnson, who made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers, has appeared in 10 NHL games -- he's 3-2-3 with a 1.97 goals-against average and .929 save percentage, and that one bagel.
